On October 13, 2023, indie-pop songwriter Shane Rennison introduced the world to his captivating five-track EP, “Nice To Meet You.” This heartfelt collection of songs provides a glimpse into Rennison’s wide-open heart and his cherished home in the Catskill Mountains of New York, where he crafted the memories that breathe life into his music. His sound evokes the craftsmanship of The 1975, the sugary synth highs of Passion Pit, and the effortless pop brilliance of Harry Styles. Describing the Catskill Mountains as a place of serenity, where he can take his guitar into the woods and be engulfed by the sounds of nature, Rennison emphasizes its importance in his life. It’s a place where he can be present, think, and feel deeply, making it the ideal backdrop for his creative process.

“Nice To Meet You” was co-created with Julian Giaimo, a talented composer and audio engineer who produced the EP and played all the instruments, except for Rennison’s piano parts. The result is an eclectic mix of tracks, each with its own unique charm and story. The lead single, “Cold Winter,” captures the essence of sparkling synth-pop and nostalgia, reflecting newfound maturity and perspective as it explores rekindling an old flame. Meanwhile, “Ghost” infuses rubbery funk elements and simmering frustration in its portrayal of a faltering relationship. The EP includes songs like “Another Chance,” a catchy lament for a lost love, and “Drunk,” which delves into feelings of insecurity, offering glimpses of Rennison’s 90s rock influences. Finally, “Temptations” wraps up the collection, transporting listeners to a tropical island with major chords and a syncopated beat, serving as a feel-good conclusion.

Rennison’s musical journey isn’t stopping here; he has a live EP slated for release in late November 2023, accompanied by two music videos. Additionally, a full-length album is in the works, with plans for a 2024 release. The music he’s creating is a testament to the growth and progress he’s experienced in recent years, and there’s a sense of excitement about what the future holds for this self-taught artist. Shane Rennison’s journey has only just begun, and the path ahead is full of promise and potential.
