“Madness As Lift” is the fourth single released by MAL, leading up to the launch of our full-length album, “COME TO LIGHT,” scheduled for August. The song breaks away from traditional structures and embraces drones, reflecting the fringes of society. It dives into chaotic and schizophrenic polyrhythmic sections that transition into bursts of aggression and fury.
MAL, consisting of Peter Hollywood on bass, Kristopher Jung on vocals and guitar, and Brendan Reynolds on drums, draws inspiration from various bands such as Jane’s Addiction, Failure, Pink Floyd, Deftones, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Faith No More, Chemical Brothers, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Hall & Oates, David Bowie, and Nirvana.
Formed in 2012 in Van Nuys, California, MAL was born out of a shared love for dark, captivating, and moody music. Initially, the trio of Kristopher, Peter, and Brendan came together to write, perform, and record music for their own enjoyment. However, their talent soon caught the attention of the Los Angeles music scene, and they started receiving gig offers. Recognizing the demand for something fresh and unique, MAL decided to take their music more seriously and cater to the audience hungry for innovative rock experiences.

Furthermore, the band has received praise and positive reviews from various sources within the music industry.
In addition to their musical achievements, MAL has had interesting encounters along their journey. They had the opportunity to work closely with Tom Fletcher, who mixed and mastered their self-titled debut album. After Tom’s departure, MAL collaborated with Andrew Haller, a trusted mixing engineer, to work on their subsequent projects. The band also caught the attention of Director and Rock ‘N’ Roll Journalist David S. Barron, who directed their music video for the song “Acqua Macabre” from their album of the same name.
MAL has been building up to the release of their new full-length album in August 2023 by releasing a series of monthly singles since March.
