The Moroccan rock trio Lazywall, who fuse local Arabic music with powerful alternative rock, go hard with their latest single “L3ado Lbared”. The english translation of this song is ‘The Cold Enemy’ and the song goes into the depths of a world dealing with substance abuse and its harsh loneliness. Through the perfect lyrics and a violent sound, the band fights self-loathing with a wish for liberation.

Lazywall

This song is intense from the first note to the last one. The song has distortion, and on top of that, the oud plays sad melodies, setting a sorrowful audience. The blend of the East and the West in music could be done without effort, as that is the band’s vision. Lazywall;s lead vocalist possesses enough dexterity to manage each word, adding feelings which make the audience and the listeners sympathize with most of the words and their meanings. It can be said that such a song exists at all levels. ‘Addiction’ describes a zombie within every human being; it is like an infection which grows on you and even distances you from the rest of humanity. It is a mark of genius to be able to tackle a serious theme like this in a rock anthem. The line “Addicted to the cure” resonates well as, Ironically, it refers to being addicted to social networks and expecting it to be freedom.

At the cornerstone of “L3ado Lbared” is a strong sense of culture. Including Arabic lyrics and traditional rhythms makes the song cross the language barrier. Smooth transitions from various sections, the heavy rock of Led Zeppelin, and the complex sound of Moroccan music create the impression of a wide variety without losing touch with the roots. In “L3ado Lbared”, Lazywall is asserting that through music, one can not only speak of the struggle but also express the pain. It’s a song that deals with harsh realities while cherishing the spirit of humanity. This is not a song, this is a message.
