The EP begins with the confident swagger of “Top Shelf”, an empowering song that manages to both be a hilarious girls’ night karaoke standard and a song about not putting up with less than you deserve. Anna easily slides into the bridge with her playful, full-throated confidence, which really marks the beginning of a great record. The opening chords of “Take Me to the Ritz” offer an excellent follow-up, an infectious song about all the adventures women can have while still having a soft spot for fancy things. It’s a song about enjoying a rowdy night at a country bar but still going home and wanting to take your boots off and take a bubble bath. Anna manages to get across the point that she’s not just a country gal that drives a truck and rides dirt bikes — she’s a lot of other things, too. The momentum builds with “C-O-W-B-O-Y”, the best song on the EP. It’s a saucy, fun song that channels all the best parts of Tompkins and country with just the right amount of flirtation, confidence, and freedom. Anna belts it out with just enough fire in her voice to make you get up and dance.

The remaining songs take a different turn than the first three, with “Weight of a Heartbreak” taking a more mellow approach. The acoustic guitar and stripped-back production are perfectly done, as is the feeling that this love is over, which almost anyone that has been in a relationship can relate to. The album closes with “Wrong Guy”, which layers some raw, bittersweet honesty over a perky, cheery beat. The lyrics are an excellent summation of the fact that sometimes, even when your heart is broken, it can also be the beginning of a new beginning. Anna has already proven with ‘Little Bit Country’ that she is not “a little bit country” but instead is a powerhouse storyteller with something to say and a way to say it that will stick with you. You won’t have to wait long to hear more from Anna, as you should expect to see even more from her in the future.
