An experimental musician, Nelda released her exemplary work, “Between Two Worlds”, on July 31, 2024. The music’s theme revolves around voluntary migration. The composition creation process involved meeting with foreign songwriters in London, and then co-composing songs with themes that Nelda and the writers had established. The album’s concept is to allow the audience to appreciate the process of leaving one’s native country, arriving, living, and finally inhabiting a new country. Each song on the album reflects the ideas and feelings of the time.
With ten songwriters contributing and two doing solo work, this pop-jazz tune is one of twelve in the album. “Everything is Scary”, the first song on the album and one of the collaborative works with Italian songwriter Viola Ugolini, discusses the fear of moving out. The next single, “In-between Two Worlds”, balances the traditional and the modern. “Not a Bad Thing”, composed with the Brazilian Thiago De Sá Jorge, deals with identification. “Heartache”, which the singer has composed along with Hasib Sunny of Bangladesh, is on the pains of starting again. Slovakian songwriter Katarina Kiktova co-wrote “Aren’t We All?” reflecting on the identity theme. Co-written with Greek Adrianos Pandis, “Wish I Was Home” also explores the theme of homesickness. “Home is Where I Go”, which she co-wrote with Australian Etoile Marley, is about finding a home. “She On These Streets”, a song he co-wrote with Argentine Gabriel Vigo, is relatively optimistic in tone. The one produced in collaboration with Christina Dmytryk Clark, titled “I Wouldn’t Be Me”, is related to self-development. The duo piece “Not a Stranger”, performed in collaboration with Cypriot musician and performer Soner Ersen, is a dance of unity. The album features a single solo song, “Shadow of the Rest”, which focuses on empowerment. The final song is “No Place Like Home”, co-written with Nigerian Tunday Akintan, where the singer relates the importance of having a home.
“Between Two Worlds” aims to take listeners on an emotional voyage, capturing the essence of leaving one’s homeland, arriving in a new country, and the subsequent process of settling in. The music and lyrics are designed to evoke the various emotions and themes that arise during this transition, making it a deeply relatable and immersive experience. As a continuation of her work, Nelda’s art presents evidence of how music can express intense and individualistic thoughts and feelings.
