Berlin-based duo Cosmic Anxiety make a striking first impression with their debut single, The Crack in My Heart. The project, formed by Eli and Gasher after the breakup of their previous band Clash Clash Bang Bang, shifts toward a synth-focused sound that blends alternative pop with a raw emotional edge. For a first release, the track feels surprisingly honest and personal, introducing a band that clearly has something real to say.

Cosmic Anxiety

The song was built in a simple but organic way. Gasher created the instrumental using a Synthstrom Deluge, crafting a moody electronic foundation filled with atmospheric textures and steady rhythm. When Eli heard the track, the lyrics came quickly—written in a single afternoon after being moved by the instrumental. That spontaneous creative moment carries into the final recording, giving the song a sense of authenticity that’s hard to fake. The Crack in My Heart explores the emotional strain of modern life. It touches on the quiet alienation people often feel in a world full of polite conversations and social facades. Beneath the synth layers is a deeper message about the disappearance of empathy and human connection. Rather than sounding cynical, the song feels more like a quiet plea for compassion and understanding.

The recording itself was done in one evening at Studio Ganymed in Berlin, which adds to the track’s natural and unforced feel. Instead of overproducing the song, the duo let the atmosphere breathe. The result is a sound that feels intimate and reflective, with the electronics supporting the emotion rather than overpowering it. Another detail that reflects the band’s approach is their commitment to keeping the project fully human-made. The music was produced without AI, and Gasher even created the cover artwork using the 3D software Blender. It’s a small but meaningful detail that aligns with the song’s central theme of human expression in an increasingly artificial world. As a debut single, The Crack in My Heart feels sincere and thoughtful. It introduces Cosmic Anxiety as a band willing to explore vulnerability and social themes through atmospheric electronic music. If this first release is any indication, the duo could be building something special as they continue developing their alt-pop synth sound in the coming year.
