Soul Provider’s ‘Urban Echoes of Soul’ is an emotional album featuring the old, classic sound of R&B and soul but with a modern concept. This project is very personal to Swedish producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Kent B Nyberg. By engaging in music with singers and musicians from diverse countries, Nyberg produced an album full of vibrant songs that encompass the genre and his personality. “Divided Souls” opens the album with deep bass and Luna Velvet’s soulful voice, which suggests to the audience a story behind the beat. Eyal Cahn’s track combines electric guitar and piano to create a sound that is smooth yet filled with energy.
“Hold on to Your Dreams” is a standout piece. At six minutes, the track encourages layering electric guitars that stimulate strong grooves and build emotion, together with a beautiful soprano sax, played by Jack Stafford. The song feels motivational, charged with energy, and a strong will to push forward. “Can’t Walk Away” is a significantly more relaxed track than the rest, with a groove introduced by Jeff Lorber’s electric piano and Gene Rabbai’s organ. Brent Mason’s baritone compliments the song and flaunts it around fans. “Keep My Fire Burning” is an outstanding track too, complete with the impeccable acoustic guitar of Pat McGrath and a strong rhythm. This song embodies the fierce will as well as the love that defines Soul music.

The album ends on a high with “New Direction” which integrates colorful saxophone lines with delicate piano parts and evokes hope. ‘Urban Echoes of Soul’ is much more than an album; it is an exhibition of what soul music can achieve. One by one, Nyberg captures the essence of blending the old ideas with the new ones, in a unique manner that cannot be forgotten.
