Liverpool four-piece RISE comes charging back with “Hard To Leave You (Barbarian Mix),” a high-energy remix that wastes absolutely no time getting to the point. From the opening moments, the track has the urgency of a band playing for a packed room, driven by fast-paced drums, muscular guitar work, synth textures and a vocal performance that refuses to sit quietly in the mix. Originally released in 2024 on the Memories and Possibilities EP, the band felt the first version didn’t completely capture the aggression and energy of the live performance. This new version fixes that problem. “Hard To Leave You” feels bigger, faster and considerably more alive, with the production pushing the song closer to the intensity RISE clearly has onstage.
The vocal work from stayMellow is one of the track’s biggest strengths. His delivery moves between emotional weight and outright rock power, with stacked harmonies adding another layer to the already expansive sound. Then there is Brian Petch’s guitar work, which gives the song much of its bite. The playing is detailed without becoming unnecessarily flashy, finding the right moments to cut through the synths and rhythm section. Paul Kinley’s keyboards help broaden the arrangement, while Alex Mahoney’s drums keep everything moving at a relentless pace. What could have become an overly crowded production instead feels deliberately packed with energy, giving RISE that distinctive meeting point between melodic rock, modern synth-driven rock and progressive touches.
“Hard To Leave You” deals with the uncomfortable uncertainty of a relationship that may be ending—or may not be. That ambiguity is what makes the song relatable. There is no easy answer, no obvious side to take, just two people standing at a crossroads and wondering whether walking away is really the right choice.
