Mike Masser has been silent for four years, and now he’s roaring back. The new album, ‘5’, is a hard-charging and brutally honest look at who Mike Masser is and it is not to be missed. The album opens with the aptly titled “Wolves In The Whiskey”, a snarling, grit-stained monster of a rock song. Masser is in full roar and growl form, and “No Sin” follows with even more intensity, a perfect one-two punch to grab attention. “Silence Speaks” starts to peel back the layers, downshifting just enough to give his lyrics room to breathe and resonate with weight. A reworked version of Genesis “Abacab” injects energy, proving Masser can honor old-school rock while stamping it with his own fire.

Tracks four through seven carry some of the album’s most emotional punches, whether restless or raging. “Run” is impatient and tense, charging forward with urgency, while “Redline” is positively volcanic. Masser can’t be contained, and the energy is palpable. “Omen” is darker and heavier, luring listeners in with its moody grip. “Twilight Zone”, another cover, balances familiarity with a sharp new edge, reimagining the classic with confidence. This middle section feels kinetic, as if Masser is racing through revelations without lingering too long in one place.

As the album nears its conclusion, it features some of its most striking moments. “Don’t Follow” is raw, haunting, and achingly human, a tribute that lingers well after the last note. The closer, “Morning After You”, is more subdued yet deeply reflective, ending the record with honesty rather than polish. With tributes to his late best friend, his father struggles with Alzheimer’s, and three bold covers, Masser has crafted more than just a return. Heavy, heartfelt, and unapologetic, ‘5’ is a declaration that silence never held him back; it only made his voice louder.
