Dead Feather is an artist who is both a musician and deaf. Living in Edmond, Oklahoma, Dead Feather recorded their new single “Corn Woman (Mother Woman)” with the help of Adam Stanley and Issac Nelson at Remote Studios in Wellston. The song is an interlude on their album ‘Cate Heleswv (Red Medicine) Vol. 1’ released on July 22, 2025. Following the mythology of Uvce, the Corn Woman and mother of Fayetu, the hunting deity, the single presents a true cultural depiction from Mvskoke-Creek history. With a rock and roll driven sound, horns and saxophone, and layered backing vocals, the track carries both storytelling and spirit, giving listeners an experience that feels timeless.

The story is as important as the music itself. The layered vocals and fullness of sound make this a special piece of work. Dead Feather and their production team shaped the arrangements with the intention of reviving these cultural stories through music. The instrumentation has a raw, live energy, as though each musician is performing directly in front of the listener. Strong yet sensitive, the piece blends the unapologetic power of rock with spirituality, keeping the music grounded in both history and memory. The recording reflects not only artistry but also resilience, with every element serving the greater purpose of preserving tradition.

“Corn Woman (Mother Woman)” reminds us that music is not only for entertainment but also for survival. Dead Feather’s work on this single documents music as art that resists assimilation and protects the Mvskoke-Creek way of life. ‘Cate Heleswv (Red Medicine) Vol. 1’ explores stories of deities, forgotten practices, and cultural identity, with a focus on Indigenous empowerment and healing. As part of this project, the single stands out as both spiritual and powerful, moving the soul while carrying history forward.
