There’s something genuinely sinister brewing in the Los Angeles metal underground, and its name is The Whispering. With the release of The Whispering – Part 1, the band arrives swinging with a dark, cinematic intensity that feels both classic and refreshingly modern. This four-track debut EP serves as the opening chapter of their forthcoming full-length self-titled album due in fall 2026, and if these first songs are any indication, metal fans are in for something massive.

Led by vocalist and guitarist Lucian Fhor, The Whispering combines wicked atmosphere, crushing riffs, and theatrical storytelling into a sound that lands somewhere between traditional heavy metal, alternative metal, and extreme melodic darkness. Fhor’s commanding presence immediately stands out—not just musically, but lyrically as well. His themes of rebellion, awakening, injustice, and spiritual conflict give the material a deeper emotional weight beneath the aggression. The EP opens with the self-titled “The Whispering,” a track that wastes no time pulling listeners into its eerie world. Cryptic whispers introduce the song before the full force of the band crashes in with precision drumming, razor-sharp guitars, and haunting melodies. It feels cinematic from the first second, almost like the soundtrack to a supernatural battle unfolding in real time. “Life After God” continues the descent into darkness with an emotionally charged atmosphere and thunderous rhythm section work. Bassist Loic Colin brings serious technical firepower to the mix, while drummer Dirk Verbeuren delivers the kind of elite performance fans have come to expect from one of modern metal’s most respected drummers. The chemistry between the musicians feels organic despite their varied backgrounds in legendary acts like Scarve, Soilwork, Megadeth, and Dissection. “Evil Eye” leans harder into the band’s darker mysticism, balancing melody with raw aggression, while “Pretty Witches” closes the EP with swagger, occult energy, and memorable hooks that stick long after the track ends. There’s a strong sense throughout the EP that The Whispering isn’t trying to imitate anyone—they’re building their own mythology.
The production is another major highlight. Recorded at Besco Recording Studios in France under producer Dan McConomy and mixed by Mohammad “Momo” Sadeghin, the EP sounds enormous without sacrificing clarity. Legendary mastering engineer Randy Merrill gives the record a polished but still dangerous edge that suits the material perfectly. What makes this project especially intriguing is the background of Lucian Fhor himself. Having worked with global productions including Cirque du Soleil, Fhor clearly understands performance and spectacle. That experience translates into songs that feel larger than life and designed for immersive live shows. For a debut release, Part 1 is remarkably confident. The Whispering has all the ingredients to become a serious force in modern metal: elite musicianship, memorable songwriting, dark theatrical atmosphere, and a fearless creative identity. Fans of heavy, melodic, and emotionally charged metal should absolutely keep this band on their radar. The shadows are calling—and The Whispering sounds ready to answer.
