KahMenCents — “Press Sure”: Turning Life’s Pressure Into Power
With ‘Press Sure’ KahMenCents takes the very real challenges of life and turns them into a motivational mantra about perseverance, ambition and the power of perspective. The track was released on 26th April 2021 and is all about the concept of turning pressure into a positive. Rather than let pressure get you down, the artist opts to ‘press sure’ and use it as a force to push himself forward towards his goals. It’s a very straightforward message, one that anyone who’s ever been through a tough time and needed a reason to keep going would relate to. It’s a UK drill track with a very positive message and the juxtaposition of the intense sound with the uplifting message is what gives the song its character. “Adversity doesn’t have to break you, it can actually be the very thing that builds your future” is the core philosophy of the track and it’s that which gives ‘Press Sure’ its identity. It takes a common struggle and turns it into a reminder that pressure can be a catalyst for motivation if you have the right mindset and the right belief in what you’re trying to achieve.
The power of “Press Sure” is in how deliberately KahMenCents keeps the message simple. It’s all about taking a negative situation and finding a way to make it positive. That’s the fundamental concept and it’s one that’s easy for people from all walks of life to grasp. The wordplay on the track gives it a very sticky hook in terms of the concept itself (pressure being something you can work with rather than something you have to run from). The influence of Russ Millions and J Hus is very much in evidence in the song’s construction, with KahMenCents clearly taking inspiration from Russ Millions’ attitude and J Hus’ approach to the lyrics. CazperrBeats (whom KahMenCents discovered on BeatStars) was the producer and helped shape the UK drill sound. Al B did the mixing and added in the drops and vocal effects to really give the track some punch. It was recorded at Vibe Lab DFW and it’s all very much centred around one thing: creating music that gets people to go out there and deal with their situation and keep on moving forward. It’s not a track with a complex concept at all, it’s a track with a very clear message.
For KahMenCents (aka The VibeMaster) music is about more than just making a sound. It’s about creating a positive vibe. He’s from Killeen, TX and rose out of Tulsa, OK. His influences are very broad indeed, from the West Coast rap scene, through the soul of Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye, to the energy and performance of Jeezy, Drake and Michael Jackson. That breadth of influence is very much what you see in the artist; someone who wants to connect with people through a variety of different musical avenues whilst always maintaining a positive attitude. His live performances across the US South (including Hashaween Fest and Oktoberfest in Tulsa) have also been a major way of getting the “Press Sure” track out to people. Producer CazperrBeats was immediately struck by the motivational potential of the track and saw it as something that could be used on a much wider scale. “Make diamonds out of any pressure situation you face” is the essence of the song. It’s a message that difficult times don’t have to be the end of the road. With its UK drill roots, simple lyrical delivery and the message of perseverance, “Press Sure” is a song about getting on with it, turning pressure into power and staying focused on the dream that’s going to see you through.
