For Alex Richo, “Será Que Eu Vou” was more than just a project – it was an experience in a song. Released on June 22, 2025, the track is a blend of African, Brazilian, and Jamaican roots music that sounds as timeless as it is new. Richo sings in Portuguese about being torn between two homes, with longing verses about food, family, and air of home vividly illustrated by him and featured vocalist Jessica Madhu. Particularly impressive is that Alex, an Australian, is able to make singing in Portuguese feel completely natural – not as a gimmick, but as a genuine homage to a country and a culture that made him feel at home. The vocals are unpretentious, the groove mellow but touching, and Moussa Diakite’s guitar solo is soulful and haunting.

The video, filmed in Brisbane, further illustrates the feeling of stillness and questioning that many migrants must feel when moving home. Visually, it’s a simple clip that nonetheless hits close to home with its everyday moments of quiet. Walking alone, sitting quietly, staring at phones – these simple motions and actions feel painfully familiar in their emotion. The video is infused with a stillness, like it’s asking the viewer to feel and reflect with it. The clip is hardly glamorous, but there’s a realness to it that strikes a chord with the listener, and the decision to film it in Alex’s home of Australia while singing about life in Brazil all but cements its message.

To sum up, this entire project feels so powerful to me because of its sincerity. Alex didn’t pretend to be something that he wasn’t – he learned the language, the culture, and he made an homage instead of an imitation. It’s a project that doesn’t feel contrived in its collaboration, which in this day and age of half-realized musical partnerships is quite remarkable. “Será Que Eu Vou” felt like real musicians coming together not just to make a project, but to tell a story. With an EP on the way and the help of musicians such as Madhu and Diakite, Alex Richo has made an incredible first impression and given us all the reminder that good music doesn’t need to be loud or popular, it just needs to be honest.
