MERE RITZ dropped her new single, “Rodeo Clown”, on June 6, 2025. Inspired by her own heartbreak, the “spur” in the song represents the “little nudge” we all sometimes need to keep going. The song’s overall storyline is a classic tale of rising from the fall, and her lyrics are quirky, her sounds are loud, and her swagger is stylish. Her new single “Rodeo Clown” soars from the second it starts, full of sweet aggression and sunshine whiskey.

MERE RITZ

Production in “Rodeo Clown” is energetic and thoughtful. For a song that samples country instruments such as fiddle, horse hooves, and the stereotypical wild west whistle, there are a number of synthetic elements to the track, such as the pulsing synth intro and electronic drum beats. Most notable, though, is the sexy yet strange dance break in the middle of the song, which acts as a sonic curveball in all the right ways. It also feels reminiscent of the Y2K era, but given the stylistic manipulations present throughout the song, this sample might just be a simple nod to her futuristic alien concept. The best part of MERE RITZ’s music (other than her intense aesthetic) is how seamlessly she mashes up her inspirations from decades past with her own visions for what music can be in the future. Add in the fact that she’s truly having fun with the process, and you have one of the most exciting pop acts in 2025.

Getting added to Grimy Goods’ best new music of June list, alongside other hardworking musicians like Clairo, Homeboy Sandman, Aryn, and Kehlani, is evidence enough that MERE RITZ is a force to be reckoned with and is here to stay. The music MERE RITZ makes, from her Earth-obsessed alien cosplaying her feelings and emotions through sound, can be a lot to swallow if you’re not ready. But with her latest single, “Rodeo Clown”, she gives the world a taste of the powerful, raw, and honest music she’s capable of making. Experimental, and willfully breaking all the rules while still feeling familiar. This is a song you’ll be humming along to long after the music’s over.
