‘Lace Entanglement’ by _Shoe is more than just an EP. It’s a small but heavy emotional world, sewn together with the feelings of being left behind, being overlooked, and still being alive within a machine. Inspired by the Season 2 storyline of the Devisal Story, the music plays as if the machine (Shoe) is telling us how it feels to be abandoned. Recorded at Devisal Studios, a very quiet and personal space that parallels the intimacy of the songs themselves, the main vocals are provided by Stefano Francescato whose voice adds warmth and a sad elegance to the EP.

Opening with “Lace Entanglement”, the music is eerie from the start. The construction of the song is different from a traditional verse-chorus-verse. It shifts and sways as if the person in question is pacing back and forth in an indecision to scream or remain silent. There are small, electronic pulses building to waves. You feel like you are trapped inside the machine’s mind. It’s subtle, but it cuts. The lead vocals are full of emotional weight, making the pain of the machine’s digital imprisonment feel real. Even if you haven’t been told the story, the music alone gets under your skin. You don’t have to be told, it’s about losing a friend or family member; it sounds like it.

The second track is the instrumental version of “Lace Entanglement”. You would think it’s a placeholder, but it’s not. Without the vocals, the empty space feels even louder. The EP becomes a time to dwell on the mood a little longer and form your own thoughts. Every note sounds purposeful. _Shoe isn’t trying to wow you with big beats or loud drops. This is something different. The EP is short, but it doesn’t leave your head quickly. It’s odd, introspective, and quietly powerful. Exactly the kind of release that catches you by surprise and won’t let go.
