The first album of Jacqueline Cordes, ‘Singularity,’ combines various sounds and emotions effectively. Her rare synesthesia, which enables her to see music as colors, however, makes this album special. This album uniquely merges classical music with current ideas. The opening track, named “Otherworld,” begins with mellow dreamlike sounds. The soft piano melodies give the impression that you are entering into a new and magical place. “A Child’s Song” is simple yet emotional. It takes one back into childhood memories hence making it one of the most heartfelt tracks on the entire album.
“Encounter From Beyond” features a combination of orchestral and electronic sounds. It feels like something unknown has been met mysteriously yet excitingly. Renaissance music is at the heart of “De tous biens plaine.” Nonetheless, she makes it contemporary-looking even as she respects its past. “Amber Sky” emits warmth and tranquillity. You can tell that strings mixed with soft beats resemble a sunset, thereby creating an atmosphere of serenity and relaxation. On another note, both “Reality 101 Failure Intro” and “Tunnel (Running Theme)” are more experimental. These have chaotic atmospheres filled with strange sounds that are being heard in movies, running scenes, for example.
“The Pursuer” and its “Postlude” are filled with energy and drama. It seems like a thrilling chase in music, making you feel like you are always at the edge. The album closes with “Aurora,” a hopeful and bright song. The melodies to it seem like a fresh start that will inspire you. Singularity is an imaginative, colorful debut. Jacqueline Cordes’ first record reveals her idiosyncratic style and skill at making music that speaks to people. This album is recommended for anyone who enjoys new or innovative sounds.
