The Report’s ‘Everything Life Throws’ is a sincere and unpolished EP that epitomizes the healing nature of music in overcoming hardship. Released on 29 November 2024, this is the fourth EP by the band, which deals with loss, resilience, and togetherness. Every song depicts different elements of struggle and togetherness which makes the experience emotionally charged while listening. The first song in the EP “What You Don’t Know” starts rather slowly and builds over stirring vocals, to which the audience almost instantly latch on. The lyrics serve as a desperate request for acceptance and touch upon a longing that the band articulates as undisclosed battles that many people carry. The way instrumentation is done here dramatizes the piece; it is soft and round and gentle yet focuses your attention.

“Voices” changes the pace and direction of the EP further, describing the noise within and outside which pushes towards decision-making many times when it is not called for. The pulse of the song and its perfect rhythm stays around the ‘divided mindset’ concept while still managing the balance of force and calm at the same time. It is a battle cry for those going through tough times, led by remarkable guitars and an ambitious chorus. “In This Together” finishes the EP with an appealing effect as it communicates a powerful message and evokes a profound reaction. It seems to be an invasion on auditory points as it innovates the thought that one does not have to fight their war single-handedly. The fast tempo and additional cleft are vibrant decorations designed to cheer up and invigorate.

The conclusion of the EP, “Not Over” is accompanied by optimism and strong-willed persistence. It is a resounding declaration that is focused on delivering the message that life’s challenges may be fierce but an individual will never yield, never surrender. The active pulse beat and the motivational lyrics of the song assure a strong conclusion to the narrative, bringing relief to the audience. All organs are present and the accompanying instruments do not distract from the vocal line, which is the main attribute of the track produced by Hugo from his home studio. ‘Everything Life Throws’ contains fittingly scuffed songs that build on the above ideas perfectly. It is an important thought that even in the most terrible periods there is something to cling to.
